KITTEN JOY 😻!!!!!!!!!
Hi All
It is with great delight and excitement that we can confirm the beautiful female wildcat we have been monitoring, does indeed have a Kitten. We are beyond thrilled and we hope you all are too. We have only had a glimpse on a night camera but as you can see on the picture, there are definitely 2 sets of eyes glinting in the darkness. If you zoom in you can see the kitten tightly following Mum as they explore side by side. It is difficult to tell the age of the kitten, but it looks quite well developed. Most excitingly of all it looks to be a little ‘Humbug’. You can definitely see striping which is a very encouraging sign.
It just shows how elusive these animals are, as whilst we have seen the female regularly, her kitten has been kept tucked away in a secret den. We have no idea where it is and we don’t need to know. That is her sanctuary.
Who knows, this may be the kitten’s first real foray into the woods. As we always say, that is the essence of freedom. It is the female’s choice and judgement and she is dictated to by nobody. There may also be more than one kitten. The female could be chaperoning them one by one to a new den site. We just know so little about their family life which is why any glimpse is such a privilege.
Our project has a community driven, grass roots approach and we are so grateful for the wonderful landowners we work with, who ensure that magical scenes like this exist in the Highlands. Also, a huge thanks to our Fieldworker Louise, who has skilfully and sympathetically captured on wildlife cameras, the stream of wonderful images and videos of this female.
The magnificent Scottish wildcat can and will be saved in the wild where it belongs. We will continue to find, monitor and protect them so their populations can thrive and increase.
Our project and our team is expanding and we are only limited by resources. If you want to help to support our vital project work, then you can do so here:

If you wish to do so, you can also text to donate. We are proud to be a part of the national fundraising scheme.
To donate £5, text WILDCAT to 70970
To donate £10, text WILDCAT to 70191
To donate £20, text CAT20 to 70191
But most of all enjoy the picture and the knowledge that the wildcat is breeding in the wild.
We hope to get some video footage soon, so please keep watching.
Many thanks as always
Emily and a very excited Wildcat Haven Team.
