AND THEN THERE WERE TWO 😻😻

Hi All

Thank you so much for the amazing response to the image of a kitten with Mum at night, on one of our wildlife cameras. We were hopeful that she had more. Well, we are delighted to tell you that there are indeed 2 beautiful kittens. We captured this wonderful family scene with Mum and 2 little humbugs, on a wildlife camera in a very secluded spot. They are clearly heading out on a little expedition.  

They are an absolutely beautiful little family and the markings look very promising at this stage. Lots of stripes and ringed tails which is always a good sign. The female is clearly an excellent mother and just look at that stare at the end of the video, as she surveys the forest before venturing further. She is a wonderful wildcat and it is such a privilege to be able to observe this completely natural behaviour out there in the remote forests of the Highlands.

We can only imagine the joy and excitement the kittens are experiencing as they go on their adventures and it is great that there are two of them, so that they can play and practice their hunting skills together. Hopefully we catch them on camera playing at some point.

As you know, we give the wildcats absolute respect and avoid all disturbance. You will note the date on the camera, it is the 12th August. We are not there checking cameras every day. We give it time (in this case 3 weeks ) and then quickly and efficiently swap batteries and memory cards, and leave the area quickly. Again we thank Louise, our fantastic and skilled fieldworker for her efforts to get this footage.

As we prove every year, the Scottish wildcat is out there breeding in the wild where they belong.

We hope this video brightens your day and that you share our determination to save these beautiful wildcats and the forests they inhabit. The Highlands simply wouldn’t be the same without them. We simply have to ensure their survival
