SUPREME COURT IN LONDON- A MUST READ
We hope you all had a peaceful Easter. Apologies for the slight gap in updates but it has been for good reason. We have taken the significant step of applying to the highest court in the United Kingdom, The Supreme Court in London, for our case against Vattenfall and Scottish Ministers, to be heard further.
We can confirm that our application has been lodged and that yesterday afternoon, the papers were served on the other parties. This is why we are only able to inform you now.
It has been a huge effort which has included engaging the help of a senior barrister (KC) based in London and solicitors based in England as well as continuing to work with the legal team who have supported us in Scotland.
With the nature crisis and importance of protecting biodiversity now being given far greater attention in law and policy, we consider it essential that The Supreme Court in London, is asked to provide its ruling on how these aspects of law and policy should be interpreted and applied in practice.
It is always worth taking a step back and looking at what is at stake here. The Scottish Wildcat is on the verge of extinction and numerically is the most endangered feline on earth. The Clashindarroch Forest holds a nationally important population of wildcats, and lies within a Scottish Government Wildcat Priority Area.
Yet despite this, we are forced to challenge the Scottish Government and Vattenfall, to stop this priceless population of wildcats from being potentially catastrophically impacted. We are only organisation that stands in their way.
Remember, the forest is still there, the wildcats are still there and the females will currently be tending their growing kittens, tucked away in secret dens. It is with this knowledge that we continue to fight on their behalf. We will not back down, we will not give up and we will not walk away. We know that you stand firmly with us.
Our fieldwork continues to expand across more and more of the Highlands and we will be back to providing more regular updates now this this significant application has been lodged.
Keep watching and thanks for your patience and solidarity.
Emily and the whole Wildcat Haven Team
