FEMALE IN FINLAY’S REHOMING AREA
Hi All
Whilst we have chance to catch our breath we have been going through masses of camera trap footage. We leave cameras out for up to six months so there are always thousands of images to check. However it is an exciting process especially when we find something like this.
This is an image, which by looking at the stature and the relatively small head size, is of a female. It looks to be a very high scoring cat. Even though in spring coat, just look at how thick, blunt and striped the tail is. A wonderful indicator of quality. Zoom in and you can see.
And guess what, this image was captured only about 200 metres from where Finlay’s rehoming den is. Look at the date in the video. It was captured in March time when females are fertile. We haven’t seen Finlay in a while but that does not mean to say he hasn’t been passing through. This area will of course form part of his home range for his whole life. Dare we dream that they have met 😻
It is such a privilege to work with and see these wonderful animals in the forests where they belong, and to imagine the adventures they have. We can only ever hope for tantalising glimpses and insights into their world. But that is enough and indeed how it should be. We hope you get as much excitement and joy from seeing this as we do. As always, we are optimistic about what the future may hold and will keep you posted.
Many more updates to follow so keep watching and keep in touch.
Many thanks and Enjoy
Emily
