NOCTURNAL KITTEN ACTION😻😻
Hi All
Great to see that you all share our excitement at the survey work being carried out, in a brand new area of the West Highlands. Extreme Wildcatting indeed. Getting the first, new wildcat on camera there will be thrilling and we will be sure to share it with you.
Meanwhile the kittens continue to thrive, they are absolute bundles of energy. They are being picked up on cameras now in deep forest and we have been lucky enough to pick up some nocturnal activity. The Mother is wonderful and is still expertly providing for them. This video shows her calling them in to another mouse she has caught. Listen to the vocalisations from the Mother. That is clearly the wildcat equivalent of ‘dinner time’.
Also look at how pin sharp her dorsal stripe is and just look at that tail. Perfect. She is undoubtedly an awesome wildcat and a doting mother. The kittens must have been some distance from her but look at them rush in, bristling with energy and excitement. This is all played out in total darkness. It is 1:45 in the morning, but they obviously have no problem navigating through their dense forest home. You will also note the tails on the kittens, they are looking exceptionally good. Fully ringed and blunt. Again, perfect.
As we have said before, it such a privilege to observe this completely wild behaviour and to see these beautiful animals enjoying their freedom to the full. Imagine the adventures they are having as they roam their forest domain. As you can tell we are almost as exited as they are, it is exhilarating to know they are out there. The very essence of Scottish wilderness.
Every year we show you kittens in different parts of Scotland. They are out there breeding and can and will be saved in the wild, where they belong. That is our mission and our determination is unwavering.
